Werner Kraus has been President of Österreichicher Automobil-, Motorrad und Touring Club (ÖAMTC) since 2001 and had been Vice-President before since 1992. As Vice-President, he was in charge of the development of the safe driver training centers.
He made most of his career in Semperit, the Austrian tyre manufacturer, which he joined in 1965. He was nominated Finanacial Director of Semperit AG in 1978. After Continental took over the company, he became Financial Director of Semperit Reifen AG in 1985 and was involved in the development of activities in Central and Eastern Europe, before becoming Chairman of the Board & CEO in 1993. He left the company in 1996.
Werner Kraus remains active in private business and serves as member of the board of GRECO International, an insurance brocker.
Very active in the Austrian economic circles and organisations, he holds the Honorary title of Kommerzialrat (Counsellor for Commerce) given by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. He received the silver badge of honour for services to the Republic of Austria in 1995 and the Silver commander's cross, badge of honour for services to the Federal Province of Lower Austria in 1996. The same year, he received the Badge of Honour, Freedom of the Slovene Republic.
At the international level, Werner Kraus has been a member of the FIA World Council for Mobility and Automobile since 2001.
Werner Kraus was born in Bratislava (Slovakia) on 4 Mai 1942 and is a citizen of Austria. He studied business economics in Vienna, graduating in 1964, and holds the title of “Diplomkaufmann” (Equivalent to MBA).
Werner Kraus is married and the father of two grown-up sons.
