Peter Doggwiler, born in Winterthur, Switzerland,
has been Director General of the Alliance Internationale de
Tourisme since 1 April 1993.
Mr Doggwiler studied Law and Japanology at the
University of Zurich.
After taking his law degree, Mr Doggwiler worked
for many years as a field delegate for the International Committee
of the Red Cross. He then moved on to the Swiss Ministry of
Foreign Affairs in the Directorate of Development Co-operation
and Humanitarian Aid.
These professional activities have taken him
all over the world to contrasting countries and cultures including
Japan, Africa and Latin America.
Mr Doggwiler, while supporting the interests
of motorists, is also deeply concerned about the protection
of the environment. He believes that alternative solutions
to present-day transport and tourism issues may be necessary
to ensure that an equitable balance of environmental concerns
is achieved.
