AIT motoring activities include reciprocity of services between
member
clubs for assistance to their individual members through
Letters of
Credit and touring services; defending the interests of
motorists in the international legislation making process;
harmonising club research and development activities in the
technical and electronic fields especially Intelligent Transport
Systems; exchanging best practice information and promoting
road safety through educational programmes, international
meetings and information campaigns.
Assistance
Through multilateral agreements between its
member
associations, the AIT co-ordinates international breakdown
assistance and provides touring information used by these
associations for the benefit of their individual members.
Consumer testing
The AIT, through its member
clubs, carries out a wide range of consumer tests and
surveys, the results of which are co-ordinated and published
at a national level through member magazines in order to promote
best practice. Among these tests figure: tunnel testing; in-vehicle
driver distraction; child-seats; airbags; motorcycle helmets
etc. For the latest test survey click here.
Road safety
In today's complex traffic system the AIT recognizes
that road safety issues require an integrated and long-term
approach in areas such as road infrastructure; vehicle design;
traffic management and traffic regulations. The AIT also believes
that in addition to these issues, on-going driver education
is key to ensuring that the unacceptable number of road casualties
is significantly reduced.
