The AIT represents the interests of cyclists at an international level for issues such as the harmonisation of transport regulations; safety recommendations for riding in groups; helmet wearing enforcement, etc. The AIT also organises rallies and contests such as the AIT Cycle Touring Rally and the AIT Traffic Education Contest (see below).

The AIT provides a list of club cycling events and is actively involved in awarding medals and certificates for completing some of these specially designed cycle touring routes. Individual members can inquire about these by contacting their AIT member organisation.

AIT FIA Cycle Touring Rally

Every year, for the benefit of individual club members, the AIT & the FIA organizes the AIT FIA Cycle Touring Rally. This event takes place in an area of the country selected by the organising club which has particularly attractive tourism sites and scenic routes.

Members of the public may contact their national club to register for this event by sending them the registration form: English - Français - Deutsch.

Next year, the AIT FIA Cycle Touring Rally will take place in Yverdon, Switzerland from the 8-15 July 2006. For further information on the rally, please visit the official website.

Traffic Education Contest

The AIT European Traffic Education Contest aims to improve the level of traffic education in european countries thereby helping to reduce the risk of children becoming involved in accidents on their bicycles.

The Contest was created in 1986 and is held annually, generally taking place in September at the invitation of an AIT Club. At local, regional, or national qualifying events, every participating Club selects a team of two girls and two boys aged 10 to 12 years. Hence, the AIT event has the status of a European final in which approximately 25 countries take part.

The Contest takes up one full day, during which the children have to accomplish various theoretical and practical exercises. The best team wins a challenge cup. The contestants are not ranked individually. For further participation information please contact your national AIT member organisation.
